Ovipool was comissioned by Moorroom, Rome, for the Sonícity
festival in the former wholesale market in Ostiense, Rome.
I visited the empty space and made sound recordings and
photographs. I worked on the sound recordings in my studio
and combined them with archive recordings of markets.

The finished piece, played through a surround sound system,
fills the space of the disused market hall with the sounds
of people and the sounds of work. Gradually this realistic
sound becomes organised into musical structures which
break down into silence, after which the process starts
over again. For the first 2 hours I performed the piece live,
then an automated version of the piece was played
continuously into the space.
