Rumours was a soundwork begun as part of the "Urban Rumours"
project curated by Hans-Ulrich Obrist at Fri-Art, Fribourg.
I presented text and sound as a live intervention at the Urban
Rumours conference in August 2000.
Later, the piece developed into a long soundscape for the
"Sonic City" project that, together with "Urban Rumours" was
part of the exhibition "Mutations", Arc en Reve, Bordeaux,
De Raffinerie, Brussel and TNProbe, Tokyo.
In this piece, the sound from the street below and the
surrounding area is picked up by a moving microphone.
The recording explores the different resonances of various
spaces which emphasise different aspects of the ambient drone,
revealing tones, rhythms, and layers of sound previously
hidden in the noise.
