Shotgun Architecture

This project was started in 2008 during a residency in Amsterdam at the Virtual Museum Zuidas.
I recorded the sounds of a gunshot echoing around the open, public spaces of the Zuidas, a new business development in Amsterdam. The sounds were used as a kind of sonar: the echoes bouncing back from the buildings were analysed by a listening / drawing computer programme that attempts to draw the spaces that it hears. This resulted in a series of prints.

The sounds were also used to create the sound composition "Shotgun Architecture" published on 10" vinyl by Onomatopee.
These images: photographs of the locations and the "sonar" prints are from the accompanying poster.
