This project was made for the Close Encounters festival in Ypenburg, September 2004. Ypenburg is a new satellite town of Den Haag, still under
construction with many empty houses.
Haunted house was a 12 hour long performance/installation where
I filled the house with sound. Sounds from the neighbourhood, but
also from far away - filling the house with spirits as if it was
an exorcism in reverse. Downstairs I used a surround-sound system
to mix sounds from outside - of the city and of nature. Upstairs,
every room had its own loudspeaker from which issued domestic
sounds like cooking, showering, toilet, reading the paper, footsteps,
voices, etc. etc.
